Albert Kan Dapaah Angry Over Attorney General’s Snub

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of parliament, Albert Kan Dapaah has angrily described as disrespectful the refusal of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Benjamin Kunbour, to appear before his committee.

The AG was expected to appear before the committee together with businessman Alfred Woyome to help with discussions on the payment of some judgment debt to Mr. Woyome.

Although Mr. Woyome made an appearance, proceeding was suspended after the AG refused to honour PAC invitation.

The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Kan Dapaah, and other members of the committee raised concerns about the AG’s snubbing of the committee and indicated their intention to petition the speaker of parliament to haul the AG before parliament to cooperate with PAC’s work.

According to Mr. Kan Dapaah, despite all the laid down procedures, “regrettably the Attorney General has decided not to produce the documents to us. I must say this is most unfortunate.”

The AG has already stated that it will not appear before PAC since the matter being scrutinised is before court.

The AG per the comments of Mr. Dapaah has up to tomorrow to appear or furnish PAC with all documents related to the Woyome judgment debt case or risk being subpoenaed through the Speaker of Parliament.

But a member of the committee, Hon. Alfred Abayateye says the AG must be asked to explain his absence from the PAC before he is judged wrongly.
