An eight-member panel of the Supreme Court, presided over by Justice Samuel Kofi Date-Bah, has indefinitely adjourned the case in which former Attorney General, Martin Amidu is contesting the judgement debt paid to businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome.

The suit joins incumbent Attorney General, Dr. Benjamin Kumbour, Waterville Holding (BVI) Limited, Austro-Invest Management Limited and Alfred Woyome.

According to an aide to Woyome, Kwame Tawiah, the adjournment is a disappointment.

“I thought this was going to give us the opportunity to have our first hearing and then dive into the case proper. Unfortunately, the Judges couldn’t form the quorum to actually have a fair sitting so it’s been adjourned so hopefully next year. We will have the opportunity to dive into this matter so that whoever is shouting gargantuan will be shamed,” he said.

“You [Martin Amidu] were former Attorney general and the Minster for Justice. These were the powers he had; you failed.”

“He had the opportunity nine months in office, having the executive power, he failed to prosecute this matter. Today you are an ordinary person just like me and you think you can do something?”

Mr. Amidu filed the writ independently at the Supreme Court because, according to him, the current Attorney General has shown no interest in retrieving the illegitimate judgement debt payment.

He is contesting the A.G.’s decision to order the payment of claims made by Waterville and Austro-Invest premised upon a purported foreign or international financial engineering agreement arising out of the two agreements of 26th April 2006 and/or any other international Business Agreement with the Government of Ghana which were never laid before or approved by Parliament, saying that it was inconsistent with and in contravention of the letter and spirit of the Constitution, particularly Articles 181(3), (4), (5), and (6) of the 1992 Constitution thereof and are according null, void and without effect whatsoever.
