Savelugu Nanton District: EC Officials Arrested Over Fake Pink Sheet Signings.
Two officials of the Electoral Commission are being held at the Tamale Police Command in the Northern Region for allegedly attempting to illegally secure evidence to facilitate the EC’s case in court against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
They are Amani Benjamin Akandi who is the Savelugu/Nantong Electoral Officer and Salamatu Osman; a National Service personnel at the Commission.
The officials were dragged to the Savelugu District Police Station by some supporters of the NPP who claimed the EC officials attempted to get some previously unsigned pink sheets validated.
Reports indicate that a mob have besieged the police station after the two officials were arrested but added that the police managed to control the situation.
Speaking to Citi News, a Journalist who was at the scene said the signatures were attracting some payment and about 15 unsigned pink sheets were also retrieved.
According to him, the NPP youth in the area besieged the premises of the Police Station demanding answers from the arrested persons as to why they were secretly inviting some presiding officers to sign the pink sheets and allegedly take money in return.
Meanwhile, the head of the Electoral Commission in the Northern Region, Sylvester Kanye has stated that he has not endorsed any such move.
“As a matter of fact, where I am, I have not asked anybody to give anything to any person.”
The two arrested persons have since been transferred to the Northern Regional Police Headquarters in Tamale.
