Kennedy Agyapong: Erratic Power Supply Is A National Problem
Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has admit that the recent erratic power supply that is facing the country is a national problem and hopes His Excellency President John Mahama will solve the problem during his tenure in office.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, if only the president can fulfill his promises on electricity during his State of the Nation Address, then that will help solve the problem.
“What the President promised us on electricity, if he (Prez Mahama) will be able to fulfill that; I (Kennedy) wouldn’t be worried. You know what, as Ghanaians and politicians, we don’t set our priorities straight. That is the biggest problem Ghanaian politicians and Africa politicians are facing. My angle is both NPP and NDC are afraid of what Ghanaians’s will say so they (NPP, NDC) don’t say the truth,” he said.
Speaking on Hello FM in Kumasi, the outspoken MP advised politicians that if government monies which are disbursed are accounted for, the electricity problem in the country could be solve.
“As politicians, we must put the nation first. We must stop giving promises just because we want to win elections, then afterwards we overlook the people as what is going on now. The biggest challenge with this dum so dum so (erratic power supply) is how home appliances are been destroyed due to the dum so dum so. Recently Oman FMs generator 500KBA got damaged,” he referred to his radio station.
Adding; “I am not the only one facing this problem, there are many Ghanaians who’s gadgets are been destroyed because of this problem, it’s more than what the government is owing the Volta River Authority (VRA). We must be very careful with the electricity issues”.
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong warned the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) not to use this opportunity of the blackouts to increase tariffs since the erratic power supply is already causing Ghanaians a lot.
He said, Ghanaians will believe President Mahama’s governance if the issue of the electricity is solved completely.
“Ghanaians will never believe the President until he solves the issue at hand. All past Presidents after their State of the Nation Address then forget what they had said,” he said.
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong however called on Ghanaians to support the incumbent president to solve the electricity problem.
“Let’s pray for President Mahama so that he can solve this problem. Because he did not select which party member’s house should go on blackout. Both the NPP and the NDC are all facing the problem. This is a national problem we have at hand. What I want to tell the government is, we can do it as a nation,” he added.
