Kumasi To Get National Theatre

As part of measures to help ease the pressure on entertainment centres in the country, President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that government will build a National Theatre in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

“We are planning to build a second national theatre. …we are in discussions with the Turkish Eximbank,” he said.

The President made this known on Tuesday during his first meet the press forum at the Flagstaff house in Accra under the theme: One Year of Responsible, Transparent and Accountable Governance.

According to him, plans are currently underway to build the second National Theatre in Kumasi.

The President who thanked Otumfuo Osei Tutu for the site revealed that a team from Turkey had been to Ghana to identify the site that would be used for the National Theatre.

According to him, the architectural drawings is currently being done after which government will consider the cost involved and upon approval the second National Theatre.

Currently Ghana can boast of 3 entertainment centres namely the Accra International Conference Center, the National Theatre and the DOME which is currently under renovation.

The plan to build the next National Theatre in Kumasi is a step in the right direction as the Kumasi is the second largest city in the country.
