Sarkodie Wins Best Hip Hop Award at the MAMAs

Multiple award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie picked up the award for Best Hip Hop Act at the 2014 edition of MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs).

The BET Award winner beat artistes like AKA (South Africa), Ice Prince (Nigeria), Khuli Chana (South Africa) and Olamide (Nigeria).

Sarkodie also gave an electrifying performance together with American rapper, songwriter and producer, Miguel.

Ghanaian singer, Efya however failed to win the Best Female award as she lost out to Nigerian artiste Tiwa Savage. ‘Slow Down’ by R2bees featuring Wizkid (Ghana/Nigeria) failed to grab the Best Collaboration while Leti Arts lost the Transform Today by Absolut award.

After a long hiatus, this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards took place in the city of Durban at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in South Africa on Saturday, June 7.

The event was hosted by American actor and comedian, Marlon Wayans and saw performances from international artistes like Trey Songz, Miguel, Davido, French Montana, and others.

The MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) was established in 2008 to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa.
