Charter House Sues Shatta Wale for Defamation.
Events management and production company, Charter House is suing Ghanaian Dancehall artiste and 2014 Artiste of the Year Shatta Wale for defamation.
The two plaintiffs, Charterhouse and Mr. Iyiola Ayoade, are seeking damages of ten million Ghana Cedis for defamatory statements the defendant (Shatta Wale) made against them in a video posted on Facebook.
Shatta Wale, real name Nii Armah Mensah Jnr. recorded and posted two videos each on 23rd and 24th September 2014. He accused GhOne TV, a television station of being corrupt and refusing to play his video on their TV channel. He also warned Iyiola Ayoade, the CEO of Charter House and GhOne TV to ‘stop fooling’ show him some respect.
The lawsuit numbered APB/2015 and dated 2nd October 2014, filed at the Fast Track Division of the Accra High Court is seeking the following claims by the plaintiffs:
*The statements made against Charterhouse and Mr. Iyiola Ayoade by Shatta Wale in the four separate videos are defamatory.
*An order for Shatta Wale to record and upload four different videos rendering unqualified apology and retraction of each of the four videos uploaded on 23rd and 24th September 2014.
(According to the claim, the videos must be first approved by the plaintiffs, Charterhouse and Mr. Iyiola Ayoade before being uploaded. The videos must also remain on Shatta Wale’s Facebook page for a period of at least one month).
* An order for Shatta Wale to send the four video recordings retracting and apologizing to all media houses that have aired the defamatory videos at his own expense.
*Damages of Ten Million Ghana Cedis for the defamatory statements.
*Order for injunction restraining Shatta Wale, his agents or manager(s) from repeating the defamatory statements.
However, the “Dancehall King” hit-maker seemed unmoved by the case. He later laughed off the lawsuit in a Facebook post.
“Hahahahah funny,my loyal fans relax…God has been our shield n will always be..GM #shattamovement 4 LYF,” he wrote.,” he wrote.

STATEMENT OF CLAIM
Plaintiffs claim is for:
A declaration that the statements made of Plaintiffs by defendant in the two separate video recordings which he uploaded on his Facebook page on the 23rd day of September, 2014 are defamatory of Plaintiffs.
A declaration that the statements made of Plaintiffs by Defendant in the two separate videos which he uploaded on his Facebook page on the 24th day of the September, 2014 are defamatory of Plaintiffs.
An order for the recording and uploading by Defendant of four separate videos rendering an unqualified apology and retraction of each of the four separate video uploaded on the 23rd and 24th days of September, 2014 respectively; whose terms shall be approved by Plaintiff’s prior to the recording and uploading, to be uploaded on Defendant’s Facebook page where they shall remain for a period of one month within a week of the judgement of this Honourable Court.
Order for defendant to send the four video recordings retracting and apologising to all the media houses and online publications that have aired the defamatory videos complained of and ensure that same are aired and/or published at his own expense within a week of the judgement of this Honourable Court.
Damages of Ten Million Ghana Cedis (GH10,000,000) for the defamatory statements referred to in (a) and (b) above.
An order of perpetual injunction restraining Defendant, his agents, hirelings, manager9s0, privies and assigns or any person claiming under or through him and howsoever described from making and/or repeating the defamatory statements and/or similar statements in the nature of the ones complained of in the video recordings complained of in (a) and (b) above.
Any other relief(s) which this honourable Court deems just and equitable.
