Rashid Sumaila re-joined Kotoko to save his footballing career.
Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila says he decided to join Kotoko on a loan deal because he wanted to save his footballing career.
The 21-year-old guardsman was declared surplus to requirement by PSL side Mamelodi Sundowns prior to the 2014/15 league season.
Rashid Sumaila played an influential role in helping the Brazilians to win the 2013/14 PSL title.
Sumaila was billed to move to Europe but the deal didn’t go through after he was left out in Sundowns season squad hence leaving him with no choice as he opted to join Kotoko on a season loan deal in order to save his professional career.
“I feel very elated because they [Kotoko] received me well when I came and I really appreciate that,” he said.
“I took the decision to come back and my club Asante Kotoko who has the interest in my football career also spoke to Sundowns for me to join on loan.
“I couldn’t be there just training and not playing, although the Ghana league is yet to start I believe it’s better here because there will be friendlies and international games to play.”
