Ghana, Ivory Coast seals semi-finals berth
The pairing for the semi-finals games has been settled, as the Black Stars of Ghana thrashed Guinea 3-0 and Ivory Coast beating the Algeria 3-1.
Ghana battled Guinea in the first match of the second day of the Quarter-finals games on Sunday.
Atsu opened the scoring for the four time Africa champions with a cool finish in the 4th minute after a back hill pass from Andre Ayew.
The Guineans after conceding that early goal took the game to the Ghanaian as they were searching for the equalizer but the defense line of Black Stars were on guard to deal with all the dangerous situations.
Ghana doubled their lead late in the first half after a sloppy defending on the part of the Guineans as Kwasi Appiah netted his debut goal for Ghana.
Christian Atsu sealed the day for Ghana in the 61st minute with screamer as the Black Stars wins 3-0 to set a semi-final date against the host, Equatorial Guinea on Thursday.
Ivory Coast also beat tournament favorite Algeria 3-1 in the second game of the day.
Winfred Bonney brace and Gervinho goals were enough for the Ivorians as El-Arbi Hilal Soudan reduced the deficit for the Algerians.
Ivory Coast will now face DR Congo in the semi-final game on Thursday.
