Ghana qualify for the final after mauling E. Guinea 3-0
The Black Stars of Ghana on Thursday thrashed host nation Equatorial Guinea 3-0 in the semi-finals to book a place in Sunday’s final.
Ghana started the game as the strongest side by letting their experience count on the field of play as they dictated the pace.
The four time Africa champions pinched the midfield of the host as Equatorial Guinea failed in combating the midfield play of the Black Stars.
The Black Stars possession yielded dividend in the 40th minute after Kwasi Appiah was put through on goal by Christian Atsu but the rushing Equatorial Guinean goalkeeper, Evonno, brought him down in the penalty box which Jordan Ayew wasted no time to convert neatly for the first goal.
Five minutes later, Ghana doubled their lead after a swift counter attack which Mubarak Wakaso slotted home to end the first half 2-0.
From recess, Equatorial Guinea came into the game as the most aggressive side but they were put to sleep in the 75th minute as Andre Ayew put the icing on the cake with the 3rd goal.
However, 8 minutes to full time, the game was halted close to 30 minutes after the home fans started throwing missiles on the field. Ghanaians fans were forced to run for cover by moving to the tartan tracks.
The game finally resumed with only 3 minutes of added time which failed to produce a goal as the game was brought to an end with Ghana winning 3-0 against Equatorial Guinea to set a final date with Ivory Coast on Sunday.
