Ivory Coast seals AFCON finals berth with a 3-1 win over DR Congo
Ivory Coast on Wednesday beat DR Congo 3-1 to book their place in the 2015 AFCON finals scheduled for Sunday, 8th February, 2015.
For the first time in 23 years, the Elephants have managed to break that two decades jinx after winning the championship in 1992.
In the game, Ivory Coast took the lead with a long range strike by Yaya Toure but a minute later Deurmaci Mbokani levels the scoring from the spot for DR Congo. However, 4th minutes to half time Gervinho restores Ivory Coast lead with neat finish.
From the recess, the Ivorians dominated play by searching for more goals as in the 68th minute, Winfred Bonney scored the 3rd goal to put the game beyond the reach of the Congolese as the game ended 3-1 in favour of the 1992 champions.
