Ghana hammer Mauritius 7-1 in Afcon qualifier
The Black Stars of Ghana opened their 2017 Afcon qualifier against Mauritius with a scintillating performance by thrashing their opponent by seven goals to one at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday.
Ghana started the game on a high note, pressing for the opener as in the 10th minute mark, Christian Atsu headed home Afful Harrison’s cross, 6 minutes later Jordan Ayew doubled the Black Stars lead before Asamoah Gyan made it three in the 24th minute.
Gyan registered his brace on the day with Ghana’s fourth goal, however Mauritius surprisingly pulled one back courtesy Sophie J but the Black Stars restored their four goal lead through Jordan Ayew as the first half ended 5 – 1 advantage the four time Africa champions.
From the recess, Jeffrey Sclupp and David Accam respectively scored their first international goal for the Black Stars of Ghana to make it 7-1 at the end of 90 minutes plus 3 minutes of time added on.
Ghana now top group H with superior goal advantage over Rwanda who beat Mozambique 1-0 in an away game.
